The Library provides you with books, magazines, electronic resources, dissertations, music CDs and DVDs.
In addition to the books needed for teaching and research, the Library’s holdings include specialist and general-interest journals, and a collection of DVDs and CDs.
The library’s rich digital resources are available to internal users via the portal of the University Library System.
The Library is part of the Bologna SBN network within the National Library Service.
The main subject areas covered are economics, law, social sciences (political science, international relations, sociology), modern languages and literatures, linguistics and sociolinguistics, aerospace, mechanical and naval engineering, and medicine.
The Library’s collections are updated and expanded each year.
It includes textbooks, manuals, essays, literary works, critical studies, encyclopaedias, atlases and dictionaries, all searchable via the Library Catalogue.
Each year the Library purchases multiple copies of the texts listed in the course bibliographies for the Forlì Campus.
The first copy is kept in the Library for reference only, is shelved under LT, and must be requested at the Loans Desk (Punto Prestito). Other copies may be borrowed for 30 days and are shelved under LTPRE.
Additional teaching materials listed in the course bibliographies (course materials) must be requested at the Loans Desk.
A copy of the Engineering textbooks is available from the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Course Management Office.
Items with low circulation are kept in the Library’s off-site storage facility.
To consult or borrow books shelved under MAGAZZINO or DEWEY-MAG, you must place a loan request via the Library Catalogue.

Copies of some textbooks in Braille are available for loan. The complete list is available in the Library Catalogue. To consult them, please ask at the Loans Desk.
The Library’s rich collection of print and online periodicals is updated and expanded every year.
Print journals available in the Library and the University's electronic journals are searchable in ACNP Italian Periodicals Catalogue (the Ruffilli Library is identified by the code BO110).
Print journals
The Library keeps the last five years of current subscriptions. Print journals cannot be borrowed and are for reference in the Library only.
Newspapers and weeklies
Many Italian and international newspapers and weeklies are available online through some University databases. Instructions on how to access them are available in the Attachments.
Electronic journals
To access the the University's electronic periodicals you can start from the Library System website.
If you are outside the AlmaWIFI network you can use one of our computers or access the proxy service on your device.
Engineering journals
They are located in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Course Management Office and are for in-office reference only.
The University of Bologna provides its users with numerous electronic resources including books, periodicals, databases, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, dissertations and teaching materials.
Electronic resources are available on the University Library System website and can be searched using the AlmaStart discovery tool.
They are accessible from any computer connected to the University network or from home by activating the proxy service, for University of Bologna users with University credentials.
External users (walk-in users) may request temporary credentials for access to the University network and to online library resources for study or research purposes only. These credentials are strictly personal and may be used exclusively in Campus areas covered by AlmaWiFi.
You can request them by arranging an appointment via email and collect them at the Library, bringing a valid identity document with you.
Since 2012, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering these, deposited with permission for online publication, have been available for reference in electronic format at AMS Tesi di Laurea, the official repository of the University's dissertations.
Depending on the access level chosen by the graduate and the supervisor, reference is either open or requires authentication with University credentials. Library staff validate the publication process and collect deposit declarations according to the deadlines set by the Degree Programmes.
The declaration may be delivered directly to the Library or sent by e-mail, attaching scans of the completed and signed declaration and a valid identity document to bibliotecaruffilli.info@unibo.it or helpdesk.amslaurea@unibo.it.
Theses in Languages and Literatures, Translation and Interpreting defended up to March 2014 can be searched using the Catalogue of Dissertations in Languages and Literatures, Translation and Interpreting and consulted at the Department’s Administration Office. Dissertations defended from July 2014 onwards and deposited with authorisation for online publication are available in electronic format on AMS Tesi di Laurea.

The music CD collection ranges from classical to pop music, both Italian and international.
The DVD collection includes films and documentaries on the history of Italian and international literature, history and culture.
Part of the Library's music holdings is the result of a collaboration with Professor Francesco Giardinazzo, entitled ”The island of harmony”.
The Bollettieri Bosinelli Collection includes a section with 450 DVDs on 20th-century auteur cinema.
