How to borrow

Loan Desk and self-service loans

If you are not yet registered, go to the Loan Desk with your University of Bologna badge or a valid identity document.

Minors must be accompanied by a parent, who must authorise registration by signing the relevant form.

If you are already registered, you can record your loans  using the self-check machine next to the entrance. You will need your University badge or an Italian electronic identity card or an Italian health insurance card.

All documents must be returned to the Loan Desk.

Extensions and bookings

Extensions

A few days before the due date you will receive a reminder. From that moment, by signing in the Library Catalogue via the Access with University credentials  button or with your SPID account, you can enter your personal area to view your reader records and renew your loans (see the instructions attached).

Loans may be renewed once only, for the same number of days as the original loan,  provided the documents have not been booked by other readers.

After the due date, renewals can be made in person, by telephone or email.

Loan requests and bookings

By signing in to the Library Catalogue with your University credentials or your SPID account, you can request available documents for loan, to be collected within the next two days.

You can also book items that are currently on loan to other readers; when they are returned you will receive a notification and you will be able to collect them by the date indicated. See attached file for instructions.

Books kept in the Library storage facility (shelved under MAGAZZINO and DEWEY-MAG) must be requested each day, Monday to Friday, by 9 a.m., either via the Catalogue or at the Loan Desk. From 2 p.m. the books will be available in the Library.

Documents not available for loan

The following books cannot be borrowed:

  • copy of textbooks shelved under LT
  • journals

What happens if I don’t return a document on time

Obligations and penalties

If you return an item late, you will be suspended from borrowing for a number of days equal to twice the delay. If you do not return a book or document, your borrowing rights will be disabled until it is returned (see the attached University Regulations).

You must not damage or mark documents on loan, and you must return them by the due date, failing which you may be required to reimburse the cost or be excluded from the service.
